Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the US, with one suicide in the US every 12.8 minutes, resulting in 1,000,000 loss survivors each year. For each death by suicide, 115 people are exposed and 25 people experience serious life disruption.

Dr. Marlene M. Reil is a licensed psychologist and registered nurse who specializes in co-occurring mental-health, substance use, and physical-health disorders. Using a variety of evidence-based and promising practices, including motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, contemplative psychotherapy, and integrated wellness self-management, Dr. Reil helps her clients build on their own inner strengths and enhance their capacity to cope with life’s stressors. She has a PhD in psychology with a concentration in substance abuse counseling from the New School for Social Research in New York City and has been trained in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Dr. Reil uses a harm-reduction approach to treating substance use disorders which entails working with clients to develop and progress towards their goals without the requirement of abstinence.

She is an energetic speaker and educator on mental health and substance use topics as they relate to at-risk individuals and those with chronic health disorders such as diabetes, cancer, and HIV/AIDS. Dr. Reil consults with public and private organizations and individuals to design and deliver educational materials that are interactive, engaging, and reflect the most recent evidence-based and promising practices. She has developed and delivered training materials for the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and urban community-based organizations as well as to militaries in Central America including the Belize Defence Force and the Armed Forces of El Salvador.
